Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa Promotes Training at Origin with Successful Workshop in Pichanaki

The first specialized coffee commercialization workshop in Pichanaki brought together producers, cooperatives, and companies to strengthen business skills and promote the value of Peruvian coffee at its source.

With the goal of bringing technical and commercial training closer to the regions where Peruvian coffee is produced, the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa held, for the first time, a specialized coffee commercialization workshop in the Pichanaki region, Junín. This activity took place on July 8 and 9 at the PROCAFES School facilities, thanks to a strategic partnership with the RIKOLTO organization.

The workshop brought together 21 participants, including producers, collectors, cooperative representatives, and companies from the coffee sector, who enhanced their knowledge on the commercialization of Peruvian coffee through two days of intensive training.

The sessions were led by Tony Arbe, manager of the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa and a specialist with over 30 years of experience in coffee and cocoa trade in Peru and Central America. The program covered key topics such as:

  • History and varieties of Peruvian coffee

  • Sales contracts and export logistics

  • Operations and pricing mechanisms of the New York Stock Exchange

  • Commercial promotion strategies (local and international trade fairs), negotiation techniques, and a business roundtable simulation

One of the most valued moments was the business roundtable simulation, where participants practiced presenting their products, building agreements, and developing commercial relationships for trade fairs, events, and negotiations with buyers—essential skills for positioning Peruvian coffee as a value-added product. This activity encouraged active participation through practical examples and real strategic sales and promotion exercises.

At the end of the workshop, a satisfaction survey was conducted. The results showed a high level of impact—100% of attendees stated the course met their expectations and that they would recommend it to other stakeholders in the sector. Topics of interest for future training sessions included cupping, price setting, cocoa commercialization, export costs, and barista training.

So far in 2025, the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cocoa has conducted 17 specialized courses, training more than 210 participants from different regions of the country.

The implementation of this first workshop in Pichanaki marks a milestone in the Chamber’s strategy to strengthen capacities at origin, bringing specialized knowledge directly to the producing regions—where the quality of Peruvian coffee is born. In doing so, the Chamber reaffirms its commitment to the sustainable development of the value chain, the professionalization of producers and organizations, and the promotion of Peruvian coffee as a flagship product.
