Swiss Cooperation finances 60 scholarships for a Diploma in Coffee Agriculture adapted to Climate Change

The online diploma will be developed by a consortium of civil society organizations, international cooperation and the National University of San Martín, licensed by SUNEDU. Aimed at agronomists and forestry professionals. Graduates will receive an official diploma.

During the month of December and the beginning of January, applications will be received for scholarships for the diploma in coffee growing adapted to climate change, endorsed by the National University of San Martín, with the technical and financial support of Secompetitivo, Helvetas, Solidaridad, the Peruvian Chamber of Café y Cacao and the National Coffee Board.

This opportunity is aimed mainly at agricultural professionals nationwide. The selected students will be able to intensify their knowledge about climate change, its impacts on national and international coffee growing, measures to mitigate climate impacts, develop design techniques and management of coffee farms to achieve resilience to climate change and continue to produce excellent coffee , development of designs and implementation of plans that increase their productivity, measurements of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint with different national and international software requested by the main markets in the world of coffee, among other knowledge. It should be noted that graduates will have a diploma with official recognition of the nation issued by the National University of San Martín, licensed by Sunedu.

TOPICS OF THE DIPLOMA
  • CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACT ON COFFEE GROWING: Coffee and climate change in the national and international context (global warming and greenhouse gases-GHG) | The carbon cycle and C sequestration in agricultural systems and in coffee cultivation. Mitigation, adaptation and resilience: Agriculture as a threat and opportunity in the face of climate change. Basic tools for field work with a CCI approach. Applications and evidence of the CCI approach in plots and farms.

  • AGROFORESTRY SYSTEMS AND THE CARBON CYCLE: Agroforestry systems in coffee | Carbon balance in coffee | Main sources of carbon emissions in coffee | Design of a Farm Plan with a CCI approach low in GHG emissions.

  • CARBON MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS ON FARMS: The module introduces you to the various methods and tools used to measure carbon. It emphasizes the importance that the environmental services market places on carbon measurement methods. | It presents the Peruvian standard for carbon measurement and proposes the use of the Cool Farm Tool - CFT as it is a simple tool, validated by the market for the quantification and balance of greenhouse gases and carbon in coffee farms.

  • CARBON MARKET AND POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL BUSINESSES: The module reveals how the international market for environmental services is organized, how they work and what are the potential opportunities for environmental businesses that generate revenues and economic improvement in the coffee sector. The module presents the regulated carbon market, especially its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), as well as the voluntary carbon market and its many initiatives, from the local sale of ecosystem services to regulated international or global scale initiatives. by Carbon Bags.
